YUTI TEACHERS' TRAINING
Trincomalee

Yuti Magazine and the concept of using it as an additional classroom tool was introduced to teachers in workshops for 150 Lead teachers who came from Kantale, Kinniya, Mutur and Trincomalee in March.
Trincomalee, 13-03-2009
Teachers Training Workshops for Lead teachers and Assistant Directors of Education were held in Trincomalee in the month of March. 150 teachers were invited for 2 day workshops and 14 Assistant Directors for a 1 day workshop on how Yuti magazine could be used in the classroom as an additional educational tool to encourage learning in many areas. Yuti's bold and colourful pages full of interesting articles on Science, Nature, Art and stories for children (see www.yuti.org) inspired the teachers to create their own lesson plans. The teachers were especially delighted with the magazine's tri-lingual format and its emphasis on strong positive values and principles and saw various possibilities for using this within the classroom. The workshops were presented by Mr Sivagnanam, a former Director of Primary Education at the Ministry of Education in Colombo. The programme was approved by the Ministry of Education in Colombo and implementation was helped by the Provincial Department of Education, Eastern Province. The overall programme was funded by Solidarite Laique and implemented by the Yuti and Sri Lanka Solidarity team. At the same time as the workshops over 25,000 copies of Issues 4 and 5 of Yuti as well as posters were being distributed to the the schools and teachers in the Eastern districts of Trincomalee, Kantale, Kinniya and Mutur.
